Abstract We retrospectively reviewed 22 cases of histologically confirmed pyogenic granuloma of the oral cavity at our centre between 2007 -2013. The age of the patients at presentation ranged from 3 to 85 years (mean 30) and the male: female ratio was 1: 1.2. The main site was the gingiva. All 22 cases were treated by excision and there were 2 recurrences among those with adequate followup. A complete review of published information and investigations about this lesion, in addition to knowledge about new approaches for its treatment is presented in this paper.
