Abstract Pregnancy tumors are oral epulides seen in pregnant women with etiology being local response to various stimuli such as low grade local irritation, traumatic injury and hormonal factors. High levels of female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy are found to play important role in pathogenesis of pregnancy tumors. As these hormones levels are high in all pregnant women, the reason for occurrence of the pregnancy tumor in some pregnant women is not known. So the current study was done to find any variation exists in the serum estrogen levels between pregnant women with tumor (cases) and pregnant women without tumor (controls) of same age group and trimester. It is a Case control study done in a tertiary care obstetric centre in Andhra pradesh. All the study subjects were examined for serum estrogen levels, brushing practices, plaque and calculus. Results showed that there is no significant difference in serum estrogen levels between the cases and controls. Top Keywords Pregnancy tumour, estrogen, oral epulis. Top |
