Abstract

Biodentine is a new material which acts as a promising substitute for dentine. It is a bioactive calcium silicate cement with improved material properties as compared to conventional Calcium Hydroxide based materials and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate. It can be used both on crown and root. Since it is a new material, further studies are still required in this direction to encourage the use of this material in everyday practice. A computerized literature search using Pub Med/Med Line was conducted for published articles on Biodentine. The search included a time period of 40 years ranging from 1974–2014. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to make the dental fraternity aware about the existence and knowledge of this innovative material, which overcomes the drawbacks of Calcium hydroxide and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate. As Biodentine is a promising material with various uses in the field of dentistry, one should know about its manipulation and handling.
