Online published on 20 August, 2016. Abstract Neurilemmoma, as we know, is a benign tumor which develops from Schwann cells of peripheral motor and sensory nerves. It presents as a slow growing, smooth surfaced and asymptomatic solitary firm mass and does not demonstrate proclivity for intraoral locations. Although, gingiva only shows sporadic involvement. Moreover, as its pre-operative diagnosis is often difficult, in most of the cases it can only be made during the surgery. In this report, a case of 10-year-old male patient with a Neurilemmoma located in the lower posterior gingival mucosa is discussed. The patient was referred to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery with the chief complaint of painless swelling of the lower gingival mucosa at the level of lower left premolar region. Clinical findings depicted characteristics of connective tissue tumour including lipoma; however, histopathologic evaluation revealed it to be a Neurilemmoma. Thereafter, no sign of recurrence was seen 2 years after surgery. Top Keywords Neurilemmoma, Schwannoma, Lower gingival mucosa, Soft tissue tumors. Top |
