Abstract

Aim

To evaluate the demographic and histopathlogical features of neoplastic tumours in nasal and para-nasal sinuses presenting in a tertiary care centre.

Material & Method

This is a retroprospective study of tissues obtained from lesions involving nasal and paranasal sinuses, conducted at Chirayu Medical College and Hospital, Bhopal, from period of January 2012 to December 2018. The tissue samples obtained were grossed, processed and reported. Patient's case sheet was studied and analysed for data.

Result

Of the 106 cases covered in the present study the malignant lesions were 74 cases out of 106 (69.81%), and the benign lesions were 32 cases out of 106 (30.18%) with male predominance. The most common of these were sinonasal papillomas (10/32), followed by capillary hemangioma (7/32). The benign lesions were 32 cases (30.18%) and the malignant tumours were 74 cases (69.81%).The malignant tumours were more common than the benign. The commonest benign tumour was sinonasal inverted papilloma & amongst the malignant tumours, the most commonly encountered was squamous cell carcinoma.

Conclusion

In conclusion we would like to emphasize the need for early detection and diagnosis. Thus early intervention in cases of nasal and paranasal sinuses tumour. This translates to longer life expectancy of patients with decreased morbiditity and mortality.
