Abstract

The advent in technology has led to the emergence of a number of mobile fitness devices as well as smart watches. However, the adoption rate of these devices is still negligible especially in developing countries with a loaded population. Contrastingly, smartphones are becoming ubiquitous, given their steady price drop. To this end, the present study aims to leverage the smartphone platform by developing a smart phone fitness application which aim to track the calories burnt by individuals who perform their routine activities while carrying their smartphones. To achieve this, at first the design specification for the application was done using Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams such as use case diagrams and sequence diagrams for better understanding of the architectural features. After that, the specifications are implemented using the tools: Angular - a JavaScript framework and Ionic - a hybrid framework that was hosted via the Heroku Cloud Application Platform. The initial results illustrate that the app can gain attraction in terms of its adoption, provided with the fact that it is cheaper to download the app than to buy a new smart watch for the same purpose.
