Abstract

The larvicidal activity of Thymus vulgaris essential oil was studied against the third instar larvae of Aedes aegypti Linnaeus (Diptera: Culicidae). Concentrations of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 ppm were evaluated of which 45 and 50 ppm recorded 100% mortality, for which LD50 and LD90 values were 12.02 ppm and 30.20 ppm, respectively. Results revealed significant variations in percentile pupation and adult emergence. Thus the present study brings out the dose-dependent larvicidal potential of the Thymus vulgaris essential oil against the third instar larvae of A. aegypti.
