Abstract

Rice leaf folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenee), a severe pest of rice, has developed resistance to many insecticides, and hence an entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana was evaluated for its potential and its safety to natural enemies. Field experiments were conducted at the research farm, Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology in Gurgaon, Haryana during 2013 and 2014. The results revealed that B. bassiana 1.15% WP @ 3000 and 2500 g ha−1 was effective, after two sprays, and it was observed that chlorantriniliprole 18.5% SC and quinalphos 25% EC were also effective. The B. bassiana treated plots were found safer to natural enemies viz., spiders and coccinellids whereas chlorantriniliprole and quinalphos were found toxic.
