Abstract The biology of two spotted red spider mite Tetranychus urticae studied at the PG Laboratory following leaf disc method revealed that it consisted of egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph and adult stages. The immature stages were followed by short quiescent intervals called nymphochrysalis, deutochrysalis and teliochrysalis. An incubation period of 3.37± 1.07 days, larval period of 1.78± 0.58 and 2.67± 0.66 days, protonymphal period of 2.44± 0.57 and 2.83± 0.75 days and deutonymphal period of 2.20± 0.77 and 2.70± 0.88 days were recorded respectively in its male and female. Total developmental period from egg to adult emergence was shorter for male (7.81±1.40 days) compared to female (10.66± 1.12 days). Mating took place immediately after the emergence of the female, and both bisexual and parthenogenetic reproduction observed. Mated female's progeny consisted of both males and females in the ratio 1: 2.55, whereas unmated female produced 100% males. Mated and unmated females on an average produced 78.37± 13.26 and 26.15± 7.64 eggs. The adult longevity of 10.10± 1.65, 13.40± 1.92 and 10.85± 2.54 days for male, mated female and unmated female was observed, respectively.
