Abstract Accurate identification of forensically important insects still remains a major challenge to the forensic entomologists. Conventionally morphological identification methods are used, which suffer from the disadvantage of not being able to distinguish between immature stages of species. Hence, DNA based molecular methods are being employed, and such species-specific data collected herein. Nearly 350 papers from PUBMED and Google Scholar are included, of which 120 were cited in the references list. More than 400 papers reviewed and strategies of morphological, biochemical, and molecular approaches reviewed.
