Abstract Aim The purpose of the study is to acknowledge and assess the TQM Barriers which are important for success of TQM implementation in steel industries. Methodology In order to achieve the above objective 24 papers were reviewed to identify the significant TQM Barriers responsible for unsuccessful implementation of TQM and then these Barriers were sorted and positioned using the quality tool “Pareto Analysis”. Findings After examining the various TQM Barriers from different research papers 17 Barriers were identified by using Pareto analysis which acts as hindrance for successful TQM execution in steel industries. These Barriers are namely Lack of quality oriented culture, Lack of employees involvement, Deficient leadership and Poor management, Lack of Top Management Support, Inadequate resources, Poor planning, Insufficient training and education, Ineffective measures of quality improvement, Lack of Customer Focus, Insufficient teamwork and cooperation, Poor recognition and reward programme, Poor communication, Lack of coordination between department, Barriers to change, No benchmarking, Attitude of employees toward quality and Non-usage of advanced TQM tools Implications This study would be fruitful for implementing TQM approach in a better way for all the industries of steel sector. The managers there can frame the strategies by keeping in mind such TQM barriers and hence adopt the TQM approach more successfully. Top Keywords TQM Barriers, TQM implementation, Pareto Analysis.
