Abstract

Of the various identification parameters age assessment of an living individual, decomposed bodies or skeletonised remainsis an integral part of any medico legal case. In case of skeletonised or decomposed remains where visual identification is not possible bones are a valuable source of information regarding identification parameters. Pubic symphysis is one of the bony regions which provide information regarding age even after the epiphyseal closure of long bones. The age assessment from bones varies in different populations. The present study was conducted in Haryana population using six phase system of Suchey-Brooks. The phases in the present study have a large and overlapping age interval. Population specific data of any age assessment method should be made available to use in that particular population
