Study of Genetic Variability, Character Association and Genetic Diversity Analysis for Quantitative Traits in Winged Bean (Psophocarpus Tetragonolobus L)

Abstract

An experiment comprising twenty five genotypes including two checks of winged bean was conducted to estimate genetic variability, correlation and diversity analysis for yield and its components during kharif 2019. High values of PCV and GCV were observed for seed yield per plant followed by number of pods per plant. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percentage of mean were observed for traits like seed yield/plant, 100-seed weight and number of pods/plant indicating the presence of additive gene action. Seed yield/plant had positive and significant correlation with number of pods/plant, number of seeds/plant and 100-seed weight at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. D² statistics was grouped into four clusters. The intra-cluster distance was maximum for cluster IV followed by clusters I and III. The inter-cluster distance was maximum between clusters I and IV followed by II and IV and clusters I and III. Highest mean value was recorded in cluster IV for the traits like plant height, days to 50 per cent flowering and days to maturity. This indicates that crossing between the genotypes of all these clusters appears to be most promising.
