Abstract

The national competitiveness of country can be improved by improving gross domestic product of the nation. India being agriculture-based economy, the agricultural productivity can contribute towards enhancing India's gross domestic product. Reduced agricultural output has been observed in recent years due to extensive use of chemical fertilizers. The use of bio-fertilizer can lead to sustainable agriculture through improved soil and the produce quality. This presents an opportunity to study technology commercialization for bio-fertilizer production.

The objective of the research is to understand technology commercialization process in an Indian bio-fertilizer firm and to identify factors influencing process of technology commercialization. An exploratory descriptive research design is selected through qualitative approach. A case study method is selected to understand the technology commercialization process by mapping with existing models. Evidences are collected through in-depth interviews with senior management of an organization. A case of bio-fertilizer production has been selected and factors influencing technology commercialization process are identified using content analysis. From the case analysis three new factors were identified namely customized infrastructure, infrastructure accessibility, and government intervention. This research will help organizations, entrepreneurs, and policy makers to devise strategies and policies respectively to enhance bio-fertilizer commercialization in India. Authors are intended to develop technology commercialization model for bio-agriculture segment to enhance the chances of technology commercialization success.
