Abstract

The study under report was conducted to assess the effects of gender and locale on subjective well-being (SWB) among employees. In all, 300 Government college teachers were randomly sampled for the present study. The age of participants ranged from 25 years to 62 years and their mean age was 42 years. Their job experience ranged from 1 year to 35 years and mean of job experience being 14.35 years. Subjective well-being was measured with TS subjective Wellbeing Inventory developed by Singh and Thakur (2005). It provides scores for five aspects of SWB. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Differential effects of gender were obtained in happiness only, a component of SWB. But locale was not found to exert differential effectson SWB as a whole or on its components. The proposed hypotheses, with an exception on the dimension of happiness and gender, were not approved. Results are thoroughly discussed, limitations are mentioned and suggestions are also given for future researches.
