Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Achievement Meenakshi Assistant Professor of Psychology, Magadh University, Bodhgay, Email: meenumesh78@gmail.com Online published on 13 June, 2019. Abstract The present study was conducted to examine the correlation between emotional intelligence and academic achievement. The sample included 215 High School students from various English medium schools of Silvassa selected through incidental sampling. Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) by Anukool Hyde, Sanjyot Pethe and Upinder Dhar, was used and to assess academic achievement percentage procured by student in last annual examination of school was taken for the present purpose. A significant and positive correlation between emotional intelligence and academic achievement was found after analysis of data. Significant positive correlation was found between academic achievement and eight components of emotional intelligence i.e. self-awareness, empathy, self-motivation, emotional stability, managing relations, self-development, value orientation and commitment. Positive but insignificant correlation was found between academic achievement and other two components-Integrity and altruistic behavior.
