Abstract

The present study had two objectives: First to examine the correlation between big five personality traits, dispositional mindfulness, and metacognitive awareness; second to study the moderating role of dispositional mindfulness in the association of personality traits and metacognitive awareness across its three levels of low, average, and high mindfulness. The sample consisted of 453 young adults in the age range of 18–30 years from Himachal Pradesh. Metacognitive awareness inventory, Big Five Inventory, and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale were used for measuring the variables. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation and Hayes Process Macro-3.5 were used for data analysis. Personality traits and dispositional mindfulness were found to be significantly related to metacognitive awareness. A significant moderating effect of mindfulness was found across its low, average, and high levels. With increasing mindfulness, strength of the association of personality and metacognition also increased.
