Abstract

The present study aims to assess the digital literacy skills among Indian Library and Information Science Professionals of IITs and to find out its relationship with the delivery of research support services to their institutional researchers in the digital era. A simple random sampling method was used in this study and data was collected by sharing the Google form of the email Id of library employees of IITs. A total of 56 responses were received from library professionals. All the respondents indicate that they possess the ability to use plagiarism software, surf / browse the internet, and can retrieve documents from e-databases, e-documents, and websites, 52(92.8%) respondents can use search engines and different search strategies efficiently, followed by 48(85.7%) respondents possess digitization skill, can work on digital repository management software and able to provide remote access service to their users. The findings further show that the skills to use reference management systems, web mining, and ontology & taxonomy are not possessed by all the respondents. The study recommends developing the expertise of library and information science professionals to improve the delivery of RSSs effectively and efficiently revising the LIS curriculum according to emerging technologies in the library and recommends library schools to give more emphasis on practical classes than theoretical ones.
