Abstract E-learning is a tool for developing skills among the students to function efficiently in the knowledge society and also improve the teaching and learning method via a computer network such as the Internet. E-learning has a very important role to play in today's teaching-learning processes and the overall learning environment. The study aims to investigate the awareness and understanding of e-learning among the students of Tripura University and found that 87% of the total respondents belong to the male category. The majority of respondents (73.49%) are in the age group of 21–25 years followed by age group 26–30 years (20.48%). Most of the respondents are post-graduate students (85.54%) followed by undergraduate students (12.65%). Maximum (86.75%) of respondents understand E-learning which is very encouraged itself. More than half of the total respondents (88.58%) are interested in registered elearning in the near future. The study concluded that all of the respondents are connected with the e-learning sites and a maximum of them think that there is a good impact on the learning environment on the students ’academic purpose.
