Biochemical Changes in Brinjal Induced by Root-Knot Nematode, Meloidogyne incognita Nayak D.K., Mohanty K.C. Department of Nematology, College of Agriculture, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar-751 003, Orissa E-mail: nayak.dhira@gmail.com Abstract Biochemical changes in brinjal cv. Pusa Purple Long inoculated with root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita were investigated. Observation were recorded in the biochemical modifications relating to various parameters like amino acids and amides, total sugar contents, nitrogen, crude protein, total chlorophyll and organic acid contents during post infection periods. Among the various amino acids detected, 08 amino acids were found to be common in both healthy and inoculated plants. Higher concentration of various amino acids and amides were detected in diseased tissue except L-tryptophan by paper chromatography and TLC scanning technique. Reduced percentage of organic acids and total chlorophyll contents were observed in inoculated samples than healthy counterparts. However, an increase in amount of crude protein nitrogen and total sugar contents was observed in the diseased tissues. Top Keywords Meloidogyne incognita, brinjal, biochemical modifications.
