Abstract A field experiment was conducted with twelve treatments comprising of carbofuran @ 1.5 kg a.i/ha, Bacillus subtilis @ 5 lit/ha, sesame oil cake @ 1.5 t/ha, crustacean exoskeleton @ 1.5 t/ha, soil solarization with 250 gauge transparent polythene sheet and their different combinations to study the population of actinomycetes and management of Meloidogyne incognita in turmeric. All the individual and combine treatments resulted in increased population of actinomycetes in soil over the initial population up to first five months after planting and gradually declined towards harvest. Significantly higher mean population of actinomycetes was recorded in soil amended with crustacean exoskeleton. Carbofuran + B. subtilis treated soil during August and September recorded highest population. Significant reduction in nematode population as well as root-knot index was observed in carbofuran, sesame oil cake, B. subtilis + soil solarization, crustacean exoskeleton + soil solarization and sesame oil cake + soil solarization treatments. Root-knot nematode management in crustacean exoskeleton + soil solarization is attributed partly to actinomycetes producing biocidal compounds and partly to enhanced soil temperature due to solarization.
