Abstract A survey was conducted during 2011–12 to determine the occurrence and population range of cyst nematodes in the different districts of Tamil Nadu viz., Erode, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, Villupuram, Pudukkottai, Thoothukudi, Madurai, Nilgiris, Dhamiapuri, Krishnagiri and Salem. A total of 206 soil samples were collected from the crops like pulses, sesame, wheat, soybean, carrot, sugar beet, cruciferous vegetables, peas, potato, white clove, sugarcane, rice, maize and banana. The survey revealed the presence of four species of cyst forming nematodes viz., Heterodera cajani, Helerodera oryzicola, Globodera rostochiensis and Globadera pallida.H. cajani were predominant species encountered in many locations and H. oryzicola was noticed only in two locations on banana. The potato cyst nematode, G. rostochiensis and G. pallida were noticed only in Nilgiris and only on potato. Top Keywords Survey, Heterodera, Globodera, Tamil Nadu, cyst nematode. Top |
