Online published on 19 April, 2013. Abstract Oral Cancer is new growth of cells that will become autonomous with one or more control mechanisms that regulate normal growth & differentiation. An age related disease & 98% of the patients are above 40 years of age. Cancer of mouth is considerably more common in men than women in most of the countries. The idea of precancer has been slowly changing. There are benign diseases which will always develop into invasive malignancy if followed long enough. With today's definition, a precancer is considered to only hold an increased risk of cancer transformation. Biopsy is removal of & examination of a part or whole of a lesion. There are several types of biopsies, the most important being Surgical Biopsy. Brush Biopsy technique uses a round Stiff bristle brush to collect cells from the surface & subsurface layers of a lesion by vigorous abrasion. A high degree of sensitivity & specificity for carcinoma is claimed through this technique. But there is also an unknown false positive rate of identification of dysplasia.
