Traditional Use of Medicinal Plants in Puducherry for Treatment of Urinary Tract Disorders

Abstract

A survey of Medicinal plants was conducted at Puducherry union territory to medicinal value of plant resources. The study revealed that 42 plant species belonging to 30 families are used as urolithiasis in traditional ways. The information on medicinal uses is based on the interviews with the local peoples, herbalists and practicing Indian systems of medicine. Details of the plants, part used method of preparation; dosage and mode of administration have been reported. Tribulusterriteris, Musa pradasacica, Aervalanata are most effective and commonly used in treatment of Urinary tract infection and Urolithiasis. These may prove precious potential source and bioactive compounds of therapeutic value against UTI and Urolithiasis and hence we need further critical scientific testing and clinical evaluation for the purpose.
