Online published on 21 February, 2019. Abstract Thyroid hormone replacement therapy is required after the thyroid is completely removed surgically (i.e. total thyroidectomy)..All the patients had normal thyroid function before their thyroid surgery. Total thyroidectomy and thyroid hormone treatment with L-T4, we assessed thyroid profile parameters before and after. This study concludes patients with a thyroid remnant after a partial thyroidectomy have higher T3 levels than patients who have undergone a total thyroidectomy. Our results are that remaining thyroid remnant after a partial thyroidectomy continues to contribute to the maintenance of serum free T3 levels. These data may provide novel information on the management of patients following total thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer or benign thyroid disease.
