Abstract

Background

The knowledge of bacterial and candidal interaction and its adhesion to different dental materials is an important factor to be considered before using it in the oral cavity for rehabilitating any hard or soft tissue. In this study an evaluation and comparison of adherence of three different species of oral microflora on three different dental alloys is seen on broth and artificial saliva as a medium.

Materials and Method

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of different dental alloys on microbial growth in two different mediums (Broth and Artificial saliva). Three different dental alloys: Titanium, nickel chromium and cobalt chromium are selected for the study. A total of 180 samples are taken. They were then autoclaved and studied for microbial adherence of streptococcus mutans, Enterococcus faecalis and candida albicans species. The adherence of the samples tested was checked in ELISA reader at 545nm.

Results

Group 1 Artificial saliva and Group 2 SDA and BHI broth showed Statistical significant values of adherence between the C. albicans, S. mutans and E. Faecalis when compared with titanium, nickel chromium and cobalt chromium dental alloy.
