Online published on 6 April, 2019. Abstract Oral flora has always presented itself in a perplexing way in terms of its biodiversity and niche. Over the years numerous techniques have been used to identify and relate these microbes to oral and systemic diseases. Recently, metagenomics has gained predominance in this field due to its potential in detecting non-cultivable flora. In the previous decade several reports have been published on identification of floral pattern, new flora and relation of such patterns to pathological processes and risk marking. But a consolidated review, linking these to actual pathology is still not published. This review provides an insight into current status of such associations.
