Abstract Wilson's disease, it is also known as Hepatolenticular degeneration which is an autosomal recessive disorder which results in abnormal metabolism of copper. It leads to accumulation of copper in the organs such as liver, central nervous system, kidney, cornea and other tissues, which results in impaired fuction, these are caused by mutation of the ATP7B gene. The symptoms usually develops in the late adolescence but the deposition of copper begins immediately after birth. Liver disease or neurological symptoms are the two common presentation which typically manifests wilson's disease. Liver related pathologies will tend to experience in symptomatic adolescents, while neurological signs and symptoms will occur in older adults. This is a rare condition affecting only one person in 30, 000 in most. This disease has been found to be 56% of gene frequency with a carrier frequency of 1 in every 90 people. Recent studies has shown an increase incidence of this gene mutation which has been found in isolated populations. Top Keywords Wilson's Disease, physiotherapy treatment, dysarthria. Top |
