Abstract Roughness was chosen as an attribute of the inner ear in order to study its role on the otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and whether it has an effect or not. The role of roughness on the OAE was studied by using the nonlinear model. The roughness of the basilar membrane (BM) is minimized so that the negligibility at first is almost zero and increases until after a certain number of stages the total neglect of the BM. In this work, it was found that roughness has a very important effect on the OAE and we believe that there are cases of hearing sickness may be due to ear dysfunction in terms of roughness.
