Online published on 2 February, 2019. Abstract To evaluate the effect of simvastatin as an adjuvant with topical steroid on disease severity on patients with chronic plaque psoriasis. In a double blind study, 50 patients with plaque psoriasis have been randomly classifed in two group, for each group 25 patients. Group one received placebo plus topical steroid (Betamethasone dipropionate 0.5 mg/g and salicylic acid 30 mg/g) for 8 weeks and group two received simvastatin tab 40 mg once daily plus topical steroid for 8 weeks. PASI score was measured before and after treatment. Psoriasis area and severity index reduced signifcantly in both groups, but the decline of psoriasis severity in simvastatin group was more signifcant (P< 0.001). In addition signifcant decrease of IL-17 and TNF-a (P< 0.001). Top Keywords Simvastatin, psoriasis, Topical steroid. Top |
