To Find the Relationship between the Physical Activity and the Academic Grades of the School Going Children

Abstract

Background

Education is very important in everyone's life. In India education is judged by the grades that a student achieves. Education depends on various factors such as mental health, physical health, socioeconomic factors and environment. This study aimed to find the relationship between the physical activity and the academic scores of the school going children aged between 10–14 years. As different physical activities tends to improve various health factors such as concentration and fitness.

Methods

This is a type of co relational study in which 511 students participated who were fulfilling the inclusion criteria of age between 10–14 years and going to a public school following the CBSE criterion of CCE to evaluate and grade the student's performance. The amount of physical activity was collected using the PAQ-C questionnaire along with the academic grades of the students in the previous session. And the PAQ-C outcome score was then correlated with the academic grades of the students.

Results

the correlation between the grades and the questions of the PAQ-C questionnaire came out to be +0.042, +0.079, +0.158, +0.099, +0.11, +0.190, +0.082, +0.131, +0.012 which states that the children should do more physical activity during various time of the day to achieve better results.

Conclusion

The study stated that there is a significant positive relationship between the physical activity and the academic grades of the school going children.
