Abstract India has the highest population of adolescents. Adolescence is a developmental period of life wherein several changes happen on the physiological, emotional, cognitive and social dimensions. Many a time the caregivers of adolescents are not able to understand the unique coping challenges that adolescents face resulting in numerous conflicts. This is leading to several suicides in this sensitive population. It is high time the people are properly educated about young citizens of our country in order to help in a healthy transition. In this paper, the psychological theories about adolescence are presented to showcase the myriad viewpoints facilitating an attempt to look at adolescence from its various angles thereby helping in the proper development of the young of our country.
