Assessment Of Work Engagement Among Railway Employees, Influence On Select Demographical Factors

ABSTRACT:

Work engagement is a positive, fulfilling, affectivemotivational state of work-related well-being that is characterized by vigor, dedication, and absorption. Although there are different views of work engagement, engagedemployees have high levels of energy and identify strongly with their work. In the present study, review of literature is made on assessment of work engagement among railway employees, influence on select demographical factors. This is done by taking a sample size 300 of south western railway employees of both male and female staffs. They were then divided into two groups, open-line staffs and office staff (ministerial staff), 75 males of both open-line and office staff, 75 females of both open-line and office staff. Each group, open-line staff of 150 sample and office staff of 150 sample total. They were administered the Work Engagement scale- Utrecht Work engagement scale developed by Schaufeli & Bakker, (2003). Chi-square test was employed to find out the assessment of work engagement among the railway employees and influence on demographical factors. The findings show that majority of the railway employees had low levels of work engagement.Open line employees had higher work engagement compared to office staff. Work engagements had a significant influence on age. Higher the age of the railway employees better was the work engagement. Work engagement had a non-significant influence on gender and designation of the railway employees.
