Antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of E. coli and Salmonella of poultry origin Chachra Deepti, Katoch R.C., Jasial Sandeep, Mahajan Arvind Department of Veterinary Microbiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palmpur (H.P.) - 176062. Abstract In all 48 E. coli and five Salmonella from diarrhoeic poultry were studied for antimicrobial susceptibility by using 13 different antimicrobials. Interestingly, 87.5% ofE. coli strains were resistant to a range of two to eight antimicrobials. Resistance to ampicillin and co-trimoxazole was even more than 79% whereas all the strains were sensitive to nalidixic acid and rifampicin; so far being rarely used in poultry diseases.
