Abstract The possible impact of 2, 4, 61trinitrotoluene(TNT) on the concentration of nitrate in the groundwater of Ohuru1Oza, Niger Delta Nigeria was studied/Ten boreholes were used to study the impact of the TNT shots in the area/Ultraviolet spectroscopic method was used in the determination of nitrate in the groundwater/A control sample was taken from the borehole stations by sampling a day before detonation of TNT/Ninety1eight percent shallow pattern shots of TNT were taken in an area of 549/73 square kilometers/Results showed that after TNT detonation, the average concentration of nitrate in the ten boreholes were within 0/1–0/6 mg/L/These variations from the control are not significant enough for TNT to be said to have impacted on the nitrate concentration of the groundwater/The control and test values are both within the World Health Organization compliance limit of 50 mg/L/Similar variations have been observed in areas where there was no TNT detonation/ Top Keywords 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene, Nitrate, Groundwater.
