Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of diets containing guava waste meal (GWM) on growth and haemato-biochemical profile in Nellore Brown ram lambs for 90 days. In a completely randomized design, 18 ram lambs were divided into three dietary treatments comprising Super Napier green fodder and concentrate feed containing GWM at 0 (GWM0), 10 (GWM10) and 20% (GWM20), respectively. Significant (P<0.05) higher average daily gain (81.05 g) and better feed conversion efficiency (8.26) was observed in ram lambs fed GWM10 as compared to GWM0 and GWM20. The inclusion of GWM at 10 or 20% level in the diet had nonsignificant effect (P>0.05) on haemato-biochemical characters in ram lambs. GWM at 10% level in the concentrate feed (GWM10) resulted in decrease (P<0.05) feed cost Rs. per kg gain as compared to GWM0 (by Rs.18.40) and GWM20 (by Rs.17.50). Hence, GWM can be incorporated up to 10% in the concentrate feed of ram lambs for higher growth and feed efficiency with lower feed cost/kg gain in body weight.
