Online Published on 12 February, 2024. Abstract The prognosis of gangrenous mastitis in goats is not favorable. Success depends on early treatment with antibiotics based on culture sensitivity test and supportive therapy. Surgery may be the alternative option to save the animal, but milk production will be lost partially or completely. A two years old Salem Black goat affected with gangrenous mastitis was successfully operated by unilateral mastectomy. Somatic cell count in milk sample from affected quarter was 8.1×105 /ml as compared to <2.1×105 /ml from healthy left mammary gland. After non-response of prolonged antibiotic therapy, unilateral mastectomy of infected mammary gland was performed and animal was fully recovered in one week after the operation.
