Abstract

The present study aims to elaborate the anatomical description of fore and hind limb phalangeal region bones in Beetal goats. The fore and hind limbs of both sides from four healthy adult Beetal goats were used. The bones were processed as per the standard maceration technique. Two digits were present and each digit comprised of three phalanges (PI, PII and PIII) and proximal and distal sesamoid bones. In gross and radiographic studies, the first or proximal phalanx was longer than the second and third phalanx, while the second or middle phalanx was much shorter than the first phalanx. The third or distal phalanx was triangular with numerous vascular channels. Proximal sesamoid bones were elongated with three surfaces at the fetlock joint, while distal sesamoid bones were shuttle-shaped at the coffin joint. The biometrical characters were non-significant within the digits in the forelimb and hind limb, while slightly higher values in the hind limb as compared to fore limb. The information derived from the study will be helpful for the identification of Beetal goat bonesfrom other ruminant bones hence, present study results will add a new database in forensic science.
