Serological cross reactivity among ixodid ticks of small ruminants Latha Bhaskaran Ravi, Pattabiraman G., Aiyasami S.S., Rajeswari D., Rajavelu G. Department of Parasitology, Madras Veterinary College, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai-600007 Abstract Cross reactivity of midgut antigens of common small ruminant ixodid ticks was established by double immunodiffusion test (DID). Haemaphysalis bispinosa and Hyalomma marginatum isaaci antigens consistently cross reacted with both homologous and heterologous hyperimmune sera. Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum antigens reacted and cross-reacted with Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum and Hyalomma marginatum isaac hyperimmune sera respectively whereas Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides antigens reacted only with its antisera and no cross reactions were observed. Top Key words Cross reactivity, Double immunodiffusion test, Haemaphysalis bispinosa, Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum, Hyalomma marginatum isaaci, Midgut antigens, Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides.
