Impact of Rural Labour Out-migration on Availability of Labour-force at Source area: An Opinion Survey in the block of Dumkal in Murshidabad district, West Bengal

Abstract

Labour out-migration from rural countryside is of utmost significant event having both positive and negative impact upon regional economy. The present study conducted over Dumkal block of Murshidabad district, West Bengal is an attempt to show the impact of rural labour out-migration on availability of labour force in economic activities flourishing at the source area. A total of 125 non-migrant respondents attached with different economic activities were taken from randomly chosen five sample villages of the block for assessing the degree of impact of labour out-migration on labour crisis in respective economic activities in situ. The computed result of Chi square (÷2) for each economic activities show significant relation between rural labour out-migration and labour crisis at the study area.
