Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the ultrasonographic changes occurring in the testicles of the stray dogs subjected to pinhole castration. The study was done on apparently healthy 18 adult intact male stray dogs, assigned to either group I (pinhole castration, n=12) or group II (control, n=6). All the animals of group I were subjected to bilateral spermatic cord ligation-pinhole castration. All the ultrasonographic alterations and dimensions of the testicles were recorded on day 0, and on days 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 post-ligation. The results showed a significant reduction in the dimensions of the testicles along with severe echogenic changes in their parenchyma in dogs subjected to pinhole castration. It was concluded that ultrasonography can be helpful in evaluating the testicular changes subsequent to pinhole castration in dogs.
