Three types of foam materials viz. Expanded Polyethylene (EPE) foam, Polyethylene (PE) foam and polyurethane (PU) foam were tested for construction of troughs and wedge. Four types of cloth materials viz. Parachute cloth, Canvas leather, Cotton Matty and PVC American matty were tested for fabricating sandbags. Based on various parameters, the EPE foam and PVC American matty were found suitable for fabrication of troughs/ wedge and sandbags, respectively. A set of four troughs of different sizes, one wedge and 8 sandbags were fabricated, which were found economical. These positioners were further tested in sedated and conscious dogs and were found suitable for routine clinical use to prevent obliquity and improve the diagnostic quality of thoracic radiographs.
