Abstract The study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of electric disbudding and surgical incision method for removal of horn buds in calves within one month of age. The calves were divided into two groups of six (6) animals each. Group-I animals were treated surgically and animals in Group II were treated with electric disbudder. Clinical, haematological, biochemical, behavioral and physiological responses were carried out to evaluate the comparative effectiveness. Surgical incision method was found to be less stressful and preferred procedure than electric disbudding based on wound healing, cortisol levels, cost factor, behavioral and psychological responses.
