Occurrence of Microtia in Madras Red Sheep-A Study of 12 Flocks

Abstract

A total of 786 Madras Red sheep from twelve (12) flocks were examined for ear abnormalities. Overall occurrence of microtia was recorded to be 6.62% with higher occurrence in adult female (50.00%) followed by young male (21.53%), young female (15.38%), female lamb (7.69%), adult male (3.85%) and male lamb (1.92%). The incidence was observed in seven flocks primarily because of inbreeding.
