Vitamin A Deficiency Induced Occular Edema in a Turtle and its Management

Abstract

A seven months old red ear turtle was presented with primary complaint of eyelid swelling and edema. The turtle was anorectic and inactive. The turtle had been providing only commercial feed and it had been suffering with this progressing condition from last two weeks. Based on the history and clinical examination, the turtle was diagnosed with hypovitaminosis A. The treatment with Inj Vitamin A @ 1000 IU subcutaneously weekly for two consecutive administrations and oral Vitamin-A drops responded well and the condition reversed within fifteen days.
