Online published on 26 July, 2017. Abstract The present study was conducted to document the gross anatomical details of nasal cavity in adult Kenguri sheep. The study revealed that nasal cavity was completely divided into two compartments by median nasal septum. The nasal cavity compartments extended from anterior nares to posterior nares (choanae). The anterior nares were slit like opening whereas choanae were beak shaped opening. The choanae were located at the level of caudal face of second molar tooth and continued caudally into nasopharynx. The dorsal nasal turbinate was the longest and extended from level of third transverse rugae of hard palate to level of cribriform plate of ethmoid bone and it continued rostrally as straight fold. The dorsal nasal turbinate had sinus, which begins at the level of second premolar tooth and attains maximum at rostral face of second molar tooth and extend up to level of medial canthus of eye. The ventral nasal turbinate was fusiform in shape and extended from level of fourth transverse rugae of hard palate to level of third molar tooth and divided into dorsal and ventral scroll. The dorsal and ventral scroll had
1½ and one turn respectively and both consist of sinus. The middle nasal turbinate was well developed and triangular in outline. It extended upto the level of first molar tooth. The ethmoturbinate composed of 3 endoturbinates and 4 ectoturbinates. Top Keywords Gross anatomy, kenguri sheep, nasal cavity. Top | |
