Abstract Improvement of fecundity was studied in Osmanabadi goats following estrus synchronization with different approaches viz. hormonal, energy and mineral-vitamin protocols. Total twenty four (24) goats were confirmed as non pregnant through ultrasonography and were equally divided into three groups viz. Group 1 goats from hormonal protocol were administered injection GnRH @ 4μg on the 1st day followed by injection PGF2α @125μg on 7th day and second injection of GnRH @ 6μg was administered on 9th day. Group 2 energy protocol consists of 8 goats were treated with Inj GnRH @ 4μg on 1st day and Inj PGF2α @125μg on day 7th and 5% Dextrose injection10ml/kg b.wt. was administered on day 7th intravenously, whereas Group 3, goats from the mineral-vitamin protocol were administered injection GnRH @ 4μg on the day 1st followed by injection PGF2α @125μg on 7th day and micro minerals 2 tabs for 10 days starting from 1st day with Inj. Vit A, D3, E @ 3ml intramuscularly on 7th day. Treated goats were followed for estrus exhibition by visual observations and further pregnancy rate was confirmed by ultrasonography. Estrus was observed as 87.50% (7/8) in hormonal protocol group, 75.00% (6/8) energy protocol group and 62.50% (5/8) mineral-vitamin protocol group. Further, fecundity percentage recorded on kidding was found to 2.1 in hormonal protocol group, 1.5 in energy protocol group and 1.6 in mineral-vitamin protocol group. It was concluded that hormonal protocol can be employed to improve fecundity in goats. Top Keywords Estrus, fecundity, osmanabadi goat, synchronization, ultrasonography. Top |
