Abstract

Mesenchymal stem cell therapy was given to six (6) dogs with wounds non-responsive to routine treatment protocols for 3–4 weeks. These chronic non-healing wounds included maggot wounds, wounds on tension sites like elbow joint, electrosurgical wounds, tumor excision wounds and suture dehiscing laparotomy wounds. Two administrations of local injection of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells were given seven days apart in each animal. Each time 2.5 x106 cells in one millilitre PBS were injected around the periphery of wound. All wounds healed completely in 5–7 days after second administration. In conclusion, mesenchymal stem cell therapy hastens the healing in non healing chronic wounds and can be considered as a logical option for management of chronic non-healing wounds.
