Abstract

Felines with pruritus and ear discharges were enrolled in the study. The waxy material from the ear canal was collected by cotton swab and examined microscopically for presence/absence of mites. Presence of Otodectes cynotis confirmed ear mite infestation. Sixty five (65) felines after confirmation were treated with topical 0.25% w/v Fipronil solution on ears at an interval of two weeks for three times and single dose of Ivermectin injection @ 400μg/kg b.wt. subcutaneously. Ear swabs collected and examined after treatment revealed absence of live or dead mites and its eggs. Improvement in clinical signs viz. reduced discharge and pruritus, revealed Ivermectin and topical Fipronil solution were effective in the treatment of otitic mange in cats.
