A Study of Job Adjustment of Physical Education Teachers Working in Senior Secondary Schools

Abstract

A study has been conducted of job adjustment of physical education teachers working in senior secondary schools of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh is bounded between 30°22’ to 33°12’ North latitude and 75°47’ to 79°04’ East longitude in Northern part of India. The entire territory of Himachal Pradesh is mountainous with altitude varying from 350 to 7000 meters above the mean sea level and encompasses three bio-geographical zones representing great altitude and climate variation subtropical to cold desert supporting different living life style of the people. Two hundred physical education teachers working in the senior secondary schools of Himachal Pradesh were randomly drawn to act as subjects for the study. Out of these 200 teachers, there were 110 male and 90 female teachers. The purpose of the study was to find out significance differences of adjustment variables of physical education teachers and to understand the gender differences towards the variables under investigation. To achieve the objectives of the study, Teacher's Adjustment Inventory by S.K. Mangal (1996) was used as device to access the adjustment or maladjustment of teachers of both sexes. The analysis of data shows that male Physical Education teachers are better adjusted in their profession as compare to female teachers. Male teachers working in rural schools have better socio-psycho-physical, personal and overall adjustment than the same gender teachers working in urban schools.
